Agustín Fernández Mallo is one of the most radical Spanish writers of today. In his own country, he has been at the top of his profession for 15 years, thanks to his Nocilla Trilogy, which is already a classic. An entire generation of Spanish authors was named after the trilogy, a non-conformist movement that denounces conventional literature. He is also well known in the United Kingdom and the United States. In the Paris Review, he recently declared, “I consider myself punk insofar as that means radical, because radical is not shouting more than others or setting fire to cars, but “grasping things by the root,” such being the etymological meaning of radical.” Mallo’s books evoke the spirit of Cortázar and Borges, as well as that of David Lynch. Each is a sort of journey through the mind with a fascination for science and technology. Mallo is coming to Brussels because the Nocilla Trilogy is being translated into Dutch for the first time. He will be interviewed by Robin Lefere, professor of Spanish literature at the ULB.
Agustín Fernández Mallo est l’un des écrivains espagnols les plus radicaux de notre époque. Dans son pays, il connaît le succès depuis déjà 15 ans grâce à sa trilogie Nocilla, devenue un grand classique. Cette trilogie a donné son nom à toute une génération d’auteurs espagnols, qui forment un mouvement non conformiste fustigeant la littérature conventionnelle. Agustín Fernández Mallo jouit déjà aussi d’une grande notoriété au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis. Il a récemment déclaré au Paris Review : « Je me considère punk dans la mesure où cela veut dire radical, parce qu’être radical ne signifie pas crier plus que les autres ou mettre le feu aux voitures, mais cela consiste à prendre les choses par la racine, conformément au sens étymologique de radical ». Les écrits d’Agustín Fernández Mallo rappellent tant les œuvres de Cortázar et Borges que celles de David Lynch, se positionnant comme des voyages à travers l’esprit avec une fascination pour la science et la technologie. Agustín Fernández Mallo vient à Bruxelles à l’occasion de la traduction en néerlandais de la trilogie Nocilla. Il sera interviewé par Robin Lefere, professeur de littérature hispanique à l’ULB
Agustín Fernández Mallo is een van de meeste radicale Spaanse schrijvers van vandaag. In eigen land staat hij al 15 jaar aan de top dankzij zijn nu al klassieke romantrilogie Nocilla. Een hele generatie Spaanse auteurs werd naar de trilogie vernoemd, een non-conformistische beweging die de conventionele literatuur hekelt. Ook in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de V.S.A geniet hij al grote bekendheid. In de Paris Review verklaarde hij onlangs “I consider myself punk insofar as that means radical, because radical is not shouting more than others or setting fire to cars, but “grasping things by the root,” such being the etymological meaning of radical“. Mallo’s boeken roepen zowel de geest van Cortázar en Borges op als die van David Lynch. Het zijn een soort reizen door de geest met een fascinatie voor wetenschap en technologie. Mallo komt naar Brussel omdat de Nocilla-trilogie voor het eerst naar het Nederlands wordt vertaald. Hij gaat in gesprek met Robin Lefere, professor Spaanse letterkunde aan de ULB.
