University of Leeds: Cowdray Scholarships for Masters by Research (MAR) in SPLAS (Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies)

The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at Leeds is one of the largest institutional providers of Modern Language degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the UK, including undergraduate and postgraduate study in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. SPLAS research is organised into two broad groupings:

Two MAR (Masters by Research) awards totalling £10,000 each will be available for highly qualified prospective students commencing full-time study in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies in October 2019. The Scholarship will cover fees at the Home/EU rate of £4,400 and monthly maintenance. International students are welcome to apply for these scholarships but will pay the remaining higher-rate fees.

We intend to award one scholarship to postgraduate researchers working on topics linked to each of the two research groups.
Working with two supervisors from SPLAS, and supported by research training provided by the School, you will produce an original piece of research of approx 30,000 words. Scholarship holders are expected to contribute actively to the research and postgraduate life of SPLAS, for example by organising and promoting research activities and supporting postgraduate recruitment.

Applicants should first apply for a place to study and then apply for the scholarship. Applications for the Cowdray scholarships will only be accepted from candidates who have already been offered a place on the MAR scheme.
The closing date for applications is 1st July 2019. Successful candidates will be informed by 18thJuly 2019.
