Appointment of Professor of Culture and Literature in Europe

The University of Groningen is seeking to appoint a full Professor of Culture and Literature in Europe to jointly lead the newly restructured Department of European Languages and Cultures within the Faculty of Arts. The University of Groningen is a research university in the Netherlands, ranked in the global top 100, with an international outlook and deeply rooted in Groningen, ‘City of Talent’. The new Department of European Languages and Cultures takes a broad approach to the study of (seven) European Languages, incorporating modern European perspective. Research and teaching in the Department is based around three strands – Politics and Society in Europe, Language (Linguistics) and Society in Europe, and Culture and Literature in Europe.
The appointee will make an important contribution to the European Languages and Cultures programmes (BA and MA) through providing strong leadership, extensive teaching experience and research excellence. The Professor will be an internationally recognised expert in the field of European culture and literature with special interest in Modern Spanish literature and culture. Research in the field of Culture and Literature sits within the Groningen Research Institute for the Study of Culture (ICOG). The new Professor will also play a stimulating role in the Arts in Society research group. Successful candidates will have an international reputation in their area of expertise as demonstrated by a relevant PhD, publication list and successful grant applications.
