Faculty of Humanities
The Faculty of Humanities provides education and conducts research with a strongly international profile in a large number of disciplines in the field of language, history, and culture. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the Faculty maintains close ties with many cultural institutions in the capital city. Almost 1,000 employees are affiliated with the Faculty, which has about 8,000 students. The Faculty of Humanities consists of six departments.

Profile
The professor of Spanish and Latin American literature is a Romanist/Hispanist and/or a Literature professor with a strong Spanish language profile.(S)he is an expert in Spanish and Latin American literature in a broad sense, sufficiently demonstrated by academic background, research activities and teaching experience. The new professor will work in the core of both Spanish and Latin American literary studies.
Required qualifications
- a PhD in Spanish Literature or Latin American literary studies
- an excellent academic publication record
- extensive experience and competence in academic teaching
- experience in developing new teaching programs
- research relevant to the Faculty’s research priority area ‘Cultural Heritage and Identity’ or ‘Cultural Transformations and Globalisation’
- the ability to establish productive relationships with other academic disciplines within as well as outside the department, among which European Studies and other capacity groups.
- an extensive national and international network with other academic and cultural institutions
- a proven track record of acquiring external research funding
- proven management and leadership capacities
- fluency in Spanish and English
Appointment
The appointment will be permanent. The gross salary will normally conform to professorial scale 2, between €5,003 and €7,285 gross per month (€ 69.822 – € 101.669 per annum, including 8% holiday pay and an 8,3% end of year payment) on a full-time basis in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). In certain cases, however, different terms of employment may be offered.
