Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Spanish at the Department of Romance Studies and Classics.

Stockholm University has been offering academic courses in Romance languages since the late 1920s. The first professorship in Romance Languages was established in 1937. The undergraduate courses of the Department of Romance languages were divided into four languages in the 1960s: French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Alongside the Romance languages, research and education include Latin American studies, Latin and Ancient Greek. At the department, approximately 400 students study Spanish at the undergraduate and advanced levels. The department’s researchers are part of several leading research areas of the Faculty: Second-language acquisition, Romance Linguistics, Text Editing and Literature research. The department has approximately 70 employees, including doctoral students.

Main responsibilities
The holder is expected to conduct teaching, supervision and examination at the undergraduate, advanced and (if necessary) doctoral levels. The department is looking for a person with a wide teaching experience within the subject of Spanish and with a research focus within one of the above-mentioned leading research areas. Furthermore, the department has a strong need to strengthen the competence in management and administration. Therefore, it is important for this employment that the applicant has documented qualifications as a director of studies or equivalent management assignments. The holder is expected to work for a good interaction across the Romance languages at the department and conduct research and initiate and lead research projects, actively work for external funding for the department’s research and stay informed about the developments in the current leading research area within the framework of the employment. The holder is also expected to contribute to the development of new courses across the subject boundaries within the main area of ​​Romance languages.

Qualification requirements
Eligible applicants for the position are those who have demonstrated and documented pedagogical skills (mainly at university level) within the subject and have paid a doctorate in Spanish (or equivalent foreign degree). Documented very good skills in spoken and written Spanish at a high scientific level is required. Holders who do not master Swedish or other Nordic languages ​​should be able to document such skills in English as are required for the collaboration within the department, faculty, university and society as a whole. The applicant must have the ability to collaborate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to fulfill the duties well.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment of qualified applicants, special emphasis is placed on pedagogical and administrative skills, as well as strong emphasis on scientific skills. When assessing the pedagogical skills, special emphasis will be placed on planning, implementation, development, research basis and evaluation of teaching and supervision and examination at the undergraduate and advanced level in the subject of Spanish. Experience in teaching, supervision and examination in postgraduate education is an advantage. When assessing the administrative skills, special emphasis will be placed on experience as a director of studies or equivalent and management experience. The scientific skills must have been demonstrated through the results of their own research in the relevant research area. The skills must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of both the pedagogical, the administrative and the scientific activities. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate documented good collaborative skills as well as the ability to interact with the surrounding society, nationally and internationally, the ability to inform about research and development work, and the ability to initiate and implement national and international research collaborations. Merit is also documented competence in other Romance languages ​​offered at the department (French, Italian, Portuguese).

Teaching and learning in higher education
Completion of at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, or having otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge. An applicant who lacks 15 credist in teaching and learning in higher education must undergo such training during the first two years of employment. Applicants who consider themselves to have equivalent knowledge without having undergone formal education must explain in their application how the knowledge has been acquired and how this corresponds to the competence that formal education provides. 

Additional information
Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
